Interesting facts

As I was browsing the net I found some really interesting facts I thought it might be fun to share with you guys. Did you know that:

Eating just fish can be Mortal
Fish has all essential amino acids that humans need to survive. However, we could die if we had only fish in our diet. This is because fish has no Vitamin C which is crucial for human survival. Even today we use few drops of lemon when eating cooked fish. Only fish that consumes plankton has vitamin C, but only way to properly extract it is to eat fish raw with the contents of their intestines.

Living Underground?
We explored what living underground offers and we found that it is not as bad as it sounds. Living underground resolves various problems that humans face today such as energy efficiency, comfortable temperature, hideout from extreme temperatures, life without noise, natural shelter from wars, tornados and hurricanes. Two problems that we stumbled across were flooding and of course lack of sunlight. Flooding can be solved with water pumps, but it seems that is impossible to penetrate sun rays through the ground.
There is a town in South Australia called Coober Pedy, where people found that living underground can be great alternative for their needs. There are times when temperatures in Coober Pedy reach an amazing high of 43 degrees Celsius (109 F). These temperatures are very uncomfortable for a normal human being and can lead to various skin diseases. The people here try and avoid the sun by living underground during this period.
This area is commonly referred to as the opal capital of the world. One finds homes, churches and even hotels in the disused shaft mines.
The area, as expected, has become a tourist attraction. People travel long distances to come and see this amazing place. The town relies heavily on the income that they get from tourism just as much as they rely on the income that they get from opal mining.
The area also boasts of being the only place that has got an underground bar. So for those that love drinking beer you will have an amazing experience drinking it from below. Interestingly there is a underground Serbian Orthodox church in Coober Pedy. Serbian miners built it for their own religions needs.

Pubic hair facts
There are many theories behind why humans have pubic hair. One thought is that the hair that grows around the genitals and under the arms lock in sexually stimulating scents called pheromones. For some, scents released from these areas are noticeable and can increase sexual desire. For others, pheromones might not be obvious but may be subliminally sensed. Some people believe that pubic hair keeps our genitals warm. Others believe that the purpose of pubic hair is to prevent dirt from entering the vagina.Pubic hair is also a natural thing to protect against body friction. Rubbing of skin can irritate and hair helps to decrease this problem. It helps to protect your sensitive areas from redness caused by the skin rubbing. This could also provide a protection of possible irritation during intercourse.

Dreams
Dream is a semi-conscious state where we have absolutely no control over our thoughts and expressions (unless we master lucid dreaming). Did you know that most of us spend six years or more of our lifetime dreaming? Research proves that all of us dream at least twice or more in our sleep though we may not remember when we get up. In 5 minutes of waking, half of our dream is forgotten and within 10 minutes, almost all dreams are forgotten. People who are blind from birth too dream. It is just that the dreams of these individuals are formed by other sense such as the touch, smell, sound and taste. During roman era some dreams were even discussed and interpreted in the senate as the dream was considered to be a God sent message for the mankind. Lucid dreams are considered those dreams where person can take full or partial control of their dreams. Most important fact in order to be aware that we are dreaming is practice. Writing down and keeping track of your dreams is very important. Second thing is noticing signs or triggers that can help us stay aware that we are in dreaming state. Once we start dreaming lucidly we could control the imaginary experiences in the dream environment. This is extremely important for people that have nightmares. Interesting facts is that our body is paralyzed during our sleep probably to prevent the body from acting out dreams.

5 Tips to keep your hair healthy during Autumn and winter

With the cold seasons coming up I always need to be extra carefull with my hair, specially when growing it. Here are some useful tips that can help you make it more healthy.

1 Get a haircut or trim by mid-autumn to remove any damage caused by the summer elements. Follow with a deep-conditioning treatment to replenish moisture loss, and repeat once or twice a month throughout the season.

2 Alternate your regular shampoo and conditioner with a moisture-rich formula to combat seasonal dryness. Since you're likely to blow-dry your hair more frequently in the winter, use a heat-protectant spray before you flip the switch, and dry on a low setting whenever possible.

3 Add volume to hair flattened by hats or scarves by styling it with mousse. Reactivate it with moist fingertips when you reach work in the morning, flipping your head and lifting your roots for added fullness.

4 Combat hair static by switching to a leave-in conditioner. Towel-dry freshly shampooed hair, then evenly distribute a dollop of the product before styling.

5 Give your scalp a nice massage a few times a week to keep oxygenated blood moving to your roots. It will relax your senses and promote hair growth.

Hope these tips are usefull for you guys. What special care do you have with your hair?

Making decisions

Decisions are not always easy to make. You probably know that from your own experience.
Since I came back from England I always had a feeling that my heart was left behind, that even though I love my family and friends, It's almost like Portugal couldn't satisfy me no more. Now a year has passed and these feelings are a bit better of course, but part of it still remains and I still regret not trying harder to stay there.
The other night talking with my BFF, about the usual, that is normally how we miss England (she was also living there for a year around the same time), we decided no more! How can we live with ourselves knowing that we could've done more and chase our dreams and we didn't?
I've been praying for a year and so far the only thing that changed in my life was the experience I gained during my 6 month internship and it wasn't even payed. Also I don't have a proper job yet, with this whole crisis thing I'm not sure if I ever will! I love my friends and church but we will always be in touch and I would visit every holiday. If these feelings are still with me will it not be bad not to pursue them? can all this not be a calling from God? So we made a plan that by June/July next year we'll be working and living somewhere beetween Cambridge, London or even Belfast. It's all still very new, we still need to work for a couple of months first and in the meantime look for an apartment and a job in one of these locations. I guess it is not going to be easy but what is easy in life?
So dear friends if you have any tips, live in the UK, and know of some jobs or apartments please let me know I would appreciate it.
Have a nice day! ***Rita***

Apple Crumble recipe

Hello again lovelies. Today I was in the mood for baking so I decided to buy some apples and make some good old fashion apple crumble. It is really easy to make and it tastes ever so good. Here's what you're going to need to prepare it (4/5 people recipe):

  • 4 cooking apples
  • 250 g white sugar
  • 200 g plain white flour
  • 120 g butter
  •  cinnamon powder
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 pan with lid
  • 1 bowl
  • 1 shallow oven proof serving dish

    1. Step 1: Peel the apples

Firstly, peel and core the apples and roughly dice them into chunks.
    2. Step 2: Cook the apples

Put the apple chunks into a pan, add three quarters of the sugar, the cinnamon stick or clove and cover.
    3. Step 3: Stew the apples

Allow to stew gently for half an hour, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. Keep checking as they can easily burn at the beginning.
    4. Step 4: Check the apples

Check that the fruit is cooked by mashing it a bit with the wooden spoon. The apples should be soft but not puréed.

Step 5: Allow to cool

Put the apples into the serving dish and allow to cool.

Step 6: Make the crumble

Mix the white flour, remaining sugar and the butter with your fingers in a bowl until it becomes like a breadcrumb consistency.

  1. Step 7: Preheat the oven

Set the temperature of the oven to 150ºC (300ºF/ gas mark 2).
  2. Step 8: Add the crumble topping

Cover the stewed apples with the crumble topping, without pressing down.

Step 9: Cook the apple crumble

Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown and crunchy.

Step 10: Serve

Spoon a helping of apple crumble into a dish and serve with cream or ice cream.

Hope you find it helpful and delicious. xoxo Rita

Back for good...

Now it's definitely the end of summer for me! This past week besides being really tiresome whenever I had free time I could enjoy myself at the beach. But from now on I need to be getting serious about my future and as you know the weather is not helping either. I leave you with the picture from the place I was at that is called Agua de Madeiros. The beach was lovely and there were not many people, just how I like it! :)
